OPEN SOURCE TECHNOLOGIES
There are various open source technologies some of them are as follows-
1. Linux
It is an operating system built in 1991, by Linus Torvalds, a Finnish student. His goal was to develop an operating system that accepts user feedback which can help in its development. It was based on Unix, an open source system. Today, Linux is one of the most popular operating systems in the entire world. Around 98% of the world’s fastest supercomputers are Linux based. As seen in the chart below, 68% of tablets and mobile operating systems are Linux based.
2. Android
Today the Android operating system is used worldwide, 84.82% of the mobile phones are based on the Android application. It has been growing exponentially since 2009, back when it only had 3.9% of the smartphone OS market. The main reason behind the use of the android application is its open source nature.
The open-source initiative that Android is based on has allowed the operating system to thrive in a competitive smartphone market. Without open source software, the smartphone market would look very different today.

3.WordPress
Wordpress is today’s most popular and widely used blogging and web content management systems which are based on the open source fundamentals. The fact that WordPress is open sourced means that anyone can alter the code or create plugins. There are over 30, 000 of these plugins, which add additional functionality to the website or blog. The plugins are responsible for things such as SEO, security, analytics and e-commerce functionality. All of these plugins are open source as well.
4. MAGENTO
The Magento enterprise edition is also open source nature but it carries a commercial license for advanced support and functionality. The Magento offers full e-commerce functionalities such as catalog browsing, marketing tools, analytics, SEO, mobile commerce etc.
